Adobe InDesign: I Can't Edit an Adobe Stock CV Template!

By Barb Binder, Adobe Certified Instructor on InDesign

Adobe recently began offering complimentary InDesign templates on http://stock.adobe.com. The thought backside templates is great—someone with InDesign experience and an eye for pattern creates a template so that a new user can only open the template, edit the content, save and impress.

Except in my feel, it isn't that easy for most people. Unless they already take a bones understanding of InDesign, they get stuck as soon as they endeavor to edit their name. Most of the template questions I go come up downwards to understanding one panel in Adobe InDesign: the Pages panel.

Hither's how to get started using these templates:

  1. Locate and license a template from stock.adobe.com. For this example, I'thousand using Colorblock Resume and Cover Letter Ready (FILE #: 140151459)

  2. Open the template in InDesign, and save information technology as an InDesign document.

  3. Then choose Window > Pages > Panel menu > View Pages > By Alternating Layout

  4. In that location are anywhere between two and four templates within a single InDesign stock CV template. Begin by deciding what paper size (and colour theme if available) yous want. In this template, in that location are two sizes (Alphabetic character and A4) and two themes (calorie-free and dark). Double click the icon for each of the four page 1s to determine which one you want to use, and selection the ane you like the best. (You tin can ignore the other columns for at present, and eventually delete them so that you don't go to the wrong folio afterward.)

  5. You volition design your CV on the pages 1-three of your favorite. Let's say y'all choice the 2d page one as per my screen shot (A4–Chief Light). Double click that page 1 icon and first adding your information to the body of the document. Use the Type tool (the T in the Toolbox on the far left) to add, delete and format the text.

  6. To edit the photo and your personal data, you volition need to navigate to the Master folio behind that Body folio, so note the letter that appears on each thumbnail. (Note: master pages were renamedparent pages with the 2022 update) A for cavalcade 1, B for cavalcade two, C for column three and D for column four. Double click the name of the corresponding chief page. Now you can update the data at the meridian of the folio. In my screen shot, I'm in the 2nd column and a B appears on each column two thumbnail, so I need to double click on B-A4 Master-Calorie-free.

  7. To render to the Body pages, double click the icon for your page i. The photo and personal info is updated on all the pages in that column.

If y'all don't need the other pages (even the 2nd and/or third pages of the column you are using), consider dragging them to the trash can in the lesser right of the Pages console to delete them from the document. They will even so be in the original template, if y'all determine you need them later.
